WEEKEND
Weekend is a budgeting app for the horrors of modern day reality. They came to me on the heels of a fresh brand launch. I had the pleasure of bringing it to life: a design system, virtually every screen of the app, and the website.

A budgeting app that doesn’t feel like one.
The goal was a budgeting app that doesn’t feel like any other budgeting app. It isn’t serious. It’s relatable, and it uses humor so people aren’t scared away. Weekend had a great brand from the agency Jekyll, and I turned it into a full system: color ramps, buttons, inputs, cards, and the way data is shown, all carrying that voice. Smidgen the pigeon turns up throughout, doing all sorts of things. Now the team can keep building with the same vision on their own.
Built around what people actually value.
Most budgeting apps track what you spent. Weekend also learns why. It connects to your accounts, then digs into what you value, so if a fancy coffee is worth it to you, it plans for that and never shames you for it. From there it builds goals that are actually realistic, and checks whether your spending still matches them. I designed every screen, with humor throughout and one rule underneath: you should only have to open it once a week.
Monthly recap
A cheeky look back at how your month went: the surprising patterns, your spending rhythm and the quiet wins.
“We loved working with Leigh, her ability to understand our mission and creatively translate into beautiful user interactions continues to impress!”Cameron Mulvey, CEO and founder, Weekend
I never knew designing a budgeting app could be so fun.
Working with the Weekend team was a pleasure. They gave me a lot of trust, and a brand this well made gave me a strong foundation, so I could lean all the way into a fun aesthetic that’s naturally my own. I got to bring that to the design system, to every screen of the app, and to a landing page that helped them land a successful launch.
See you next weekend.
